Western Reserve Presbyterian Church (Ohio)

Western Reserve Presbyterian Church is a new church plant sent by Redeemer Church (PCA) in Northeast Ohio and pastored by Jason Piland.  Our aim is to launch corporate worship in the first quarter of 2026.

Northeast Ohio is marked by engaged and friendly communities.  However, this region needs the gospel.  Western Reserve intends to target the area of North Summit County, Ohio, where only 6% of the population identifies as evangelical Christians.  The growth of the ministry of Redeemer Church in recent years shows that the area is ripe for more faithful churches, so Redeemer is sending out a core group to plant this new work.

Thanks to the generosity of Redeemer Church, anticipated internal giving, and early partners, a significant portion of our budget for the first three years is already in place.  To complete our financial plan, we are seeking to raise an additional $300,000 over three years.  Your partnership with WRPC makes this plant possible.

Rev. Jason Piland began serving Redeemer Church in June 2019 before being sent to plant WRPC in 2025.  He received his Bachelor’s (2011) and J.D. degrees (2014) from Belmont University (Nashville), and his M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary (Charlotte) in 2019.  He serves The Ohio Presbytery and the General Assembly in various capacities, and his heart is for the care of God’s people at the local church.  He married Erika in 2012, and they have four children.

You can learn more about WRPC on our website, and you can reach out to Pastor Piland (jason@wrpres.com) with any questions.

Why Plant a Church?

We are planting a church because Christ has commissioned his church to multiply and reach all people in all places on earth.  Church planting isn’t a side project—it’s at the very center of the church’s God-given mission.

Scripture shows us that the visible church is how Christ proclaims his gospel in this world and how each believer is built up in spiritual maturity. Geerhardus Vos called the church “the workplace of re-creating grace,” and I couldn’t agree more.

The church is so significant and beloved by God that Christ has promised that “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt 16:18). He then commissioned the Apostles, representing the institution of the church itself, to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:19) and that in going they would “be [Christ’s] witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). The great missionary activity we see in Acts is an outflow of the promises and commands Christ gave his church from the day he ascended.

And the “going” of the church hasn’t stopped yet. There are more people in more places—both at home and abroad—that need to hear the gospel and need the ministry of the Church nearby.

That’s why we’re planting Western Reserve Presbyterian Church.  We want to see the gospel going forward into the darkness of places that need a greater gospel witness and going deeper into the hearts of Christ’s people as they grow in him.

Western Reserve Presbyterian Church is a product of that mission focus, and we ourselves pray that we maintain that mission and that the Lord provides us the resources to plant our own daughter churches to continue to multiply Christ’s witness here on earth.

The Need

The area north of Redeemer Church in Hudson, Ohio, has tremendous need of the gospel.

  • Only 6% of residents identify as evangelical Christians.
  • 20% identify as Roman Catholic, and 16% as Mainline Protestant.
  • No PCA church exists for nearly 25 miles north toward Cleveland.

This region is ready for faithful gospel witness.

The Opportunity

Redeemer has flourished these past six years while I have had the joy of serving the church, and God has given great resources that can be mobilized for a church plant.

  • Membership has nearly doubled to about 350, filling every pew and Sunday School room.
  • In 2024 we welcomed a third Pastor on staff and now have more Elders and Deacons than we’ve had before.
  • Our congregation is healthy, gifted, and has great capacity to support a new plant.

With Redeemer’s facilities now at capacity, planting a daughter church allows both congregations to thrive. The Elders agree that because of the Lord’s blessing, Redeemer is ready to invest its resources—a pastor, officers, members, and finances—to plant another like-minded church for the sake of the gospel.

The Plan

Redeemer’s Session has prioritized targeting a five-mile semi-circle north of Redeemer—including cities such as Twinsburg, Macedonia, and Boston Heights. This keeps the plant close enough for Redeemer members to serve and join yet reaches neighborhoods desperate for the gospel.

A wonderful core team is coming out of Redeemer and includes a Pastor, a Ruling Elder, a Deacon, a Pastoral Assistant (seminary student), and a total of 31 committed adult members (plus many children!) entering fall 2025.  Lord willing, we hope to be able to begin worshipping publicly by the beginning of 2026.

Pray for us as we continue to search for a worship location and raise funds to support the ongoing work of Western Reserve Presbyterian Church.
