Steve Jessen – MNA Disaster Response Specialist, The Carolinas

Meet Steve

From a young age, two themes have emerged in Steve’s life: a passion for sharing the hope of Jesus and an aptitude for carpentry. The son of a pastor, Steve grew up in the church and went on many mission trips, the longest stint being 14 months in Mexico City upon graduating from Grove City College. After working as a youth pastor and marrying his wife Julie, Steve attended seminary at Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC while working construction on the side. Since then, Steve has worked both as a general contractor and in different ministry positions at various churches, most recently as Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Stanley, NC.

Through his experience in construction and ministry the Lord has been preparing him for a role as Disaster Response Specialist for the Carolinas. Having lived in North Carolina for more than 25 years, including on the coast in Wilmington, Steve understands the importance of disaster response services – and how disaster response can be an open door to sharing the love of Jesus with people in their suffering.

Steve is also the father of two adult daughters: Hannah- married to Pierce Conway and Miriam- married to Jon Hassler.  He also has the joy of being a “PaPa” to his grandsons, Jessen and Shepherd Conway. In his spare time, you can find him riding his mountain bike, reading, or adventuring in his camper with his family.

Support Steve’s work with MNA

When disaster strikes an area, communities find themselves vulnerable, fearful, and in need of hope. MNA is on the frontlines of disaster relief, being the hands and feet of Jesus and equipping the church to serve their people well in the wake of disaster. Steve looks forward to his role as Disaster Response Specialist in the Carolinas, where your support will empower him and the team to:

  • Train NC and SC churches and presbyteries in disaster response preparedness and provide disaster relief assistance to them.
  • Coordinate volunteers and key leaders across NC and SC presbyteries.
  • Raise awareness of MNA’s work through communication and education.
  • Bring the message of Jesus to those affected by disaster.

Ultimately, your support in any amount will empower the gospel to go forth in the Carolinas and beyond. Thank you for investing in this mission!
