Born and raised in a Hindu family in India, Shiv came to know Christ in 2010 while studying for a graduate degree in computer science at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2013, God called him to leave his technology career with Amazon.com in Seattle to become a pastor. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity International University near Chicago in 2017 and was ordained as a teaching elder with the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Pastor Shiv is married to Namhui Kim, who was born and raised in a Christian family in South Korea. Together they have a 3-year-old son, Samuel, and a baby girl, Hosanna.
Since early 2021, Shiv and Namhui have sensed a call to plant a gospel-centered Reformed church that is welcoming to internationals living in the United States. They completed MNA Church Planter Assessment in Sept 2021. Through a series of events, God led them to meet Rev. Dan Millward who leads The Detroit Project – a church planting network within the Great Lakes Presbytery (PCA) dedicated to planting churches in Detroit and Metro Detroit. From the beginning, it was apparent to Rev. Millward that Novi would be a suitable site for Shiv to plant.
Novi, Michigan is one of the most diverse suburbs in Metro Detroit. It has a growing Asian population. The most recent statistical reports show that of the 20% of the population that is Asian, about 5,000 people are Asian Indian. Typically, Novi residents are highly educated professionals who are married and have young kids. For more details on demographics of Novi click here. Yet, there is no PCA church in Novi to reach out to its unique demographic. This is exactly the kind of ministry that Shiv and Namhui have desired to do.
Thank you for supporting Pastor Shiv and the church plant in Novi. God bless you richly in Christ!
